12mm
Preparation
1. Remove the seat and the lower cowl. Detailed in the owners manual; page
104-106.
2. Remove the exhaust valve servo motor by disconnecting the connector. This is
done by unclipping the clip underneath the connector and then pulling to
separate.
3. Remove the bolt holding the servo motor
4. Pull the motor off its post and disconnect the cable.
5. Pull the cable through from below and then put the servo motor back in and
reconnect it to ensure you do not get an FI warning light, and then clip the
cable back in to place.
6. Loosen the clamp that is holding the stock muffler on.
7. Remove the muffler using a 12mm wrench and then remove the rear mounting
bolt.
8. Remove the footrest hanger.
9. When loose, the muffler will drop to one side, pull it off, threading the cable
through.
10. Remove the heat shield from the back of the footrest by taking off the small
bolt at the front.
(Be careful: The bolts are quite soft headed and require care when removing.)
11. Undo the bolt at the back, which has a nut on the back, which can be
undone using a 8mm wrench.
12. Put a little bit of silicone foam (found in kit) on the inside of the lower cowl,
then tighten bolt.
Assembly:
13. Slip the muffler onto the headers at an angle, so under the suspension
linkage. Once engaged, roll the muffler up and behind the foot rest and then
push the muffler into position.
14. Put the footrest plate back on and tighten bolts.
15. Put the bolt back through the stock bolt and through the bracket on the back
and let it rest there.
16. Tighten the muffler clamp using a 10mm socket. Clamp until firmly attached.
(If you have a torque wrench the torque setting will be 25-foot pounds). Make
sure the muffler is tightly attached and there is no movement.
17. Reattach the lower cowl. Detailed in the owners instruction manual.
18. Tighten the stock bolt on either side of the lower cowling and then take the
trim piece and put it underneath the cowling, over the exit and behind the
bolt.
19. Push the bolt through the top mounting hole of the bracket.
20. Push the stock bolt through the rear of the fairing and the new trim piece.
21. Take the nut and replace it on to the back of the mounting bolt.
22. Take the small black cross-headed screw from the kit and align the bracket
on the back of the muffler with the hole in the trim piece. Then put the screw
through the hole, engage the well nut and tighten it.
23. Check there is clearance all the way around the exit pipe and check that the
carbon is not touching in any place. (If it is, go back and twist the muffler on
the headers to locate the exit in the center of the trim.)
24. Tighten the nut from the bracket to the strap.
25. On the right hand side, place the piece of plastic trim over the join overlap of
the carbon trim piece and the stock bodywork.
26. On the left hand side, put the spacer (small diameter in fairing) between the lower
cowl and frame and bolt in place.
Now all that’s left is to take the bike for a good ride. Remember after about 100 miles retighten the inlet clamp on to the headers.
NOTE:
TaylorMade Racing is not responsible for burnt trim pieces or cowlings due to improper installation, please check that your trim pieces are not contacting the muffler.
